Frequently Asked Questions
What information does the lead service line inventory contain?
The interactive map essentially contains information to identify where the service line is located, as well as information for both the system owned portion of your service line as well the customer owned portion.
How do I know what section of the service line is mine and what is yours?
The water system owns the line from the water main to, and including the water meter base. The customer owned portion of the line would be from your water meter base to your home or business.
How do I lookup my service line on the interactive map?
A couple of different ways. First, you can search by your service address. Do this by clicking the search icon in the top left corner, then click on the drop down menu that says, "Current Features". Select "Address", then type in your service address (house number and street name) as it appears on your water bill in the Search box. Please note, for the search feature to locate your service, the address must be typed exactly as it appears on your bill (e.g. 123 Water St). If you successfully typed in the correct service address, it will bring it up under the search box listed as your address with a box to the right. Click the box and the map will go directly to your home/business. Above the two dots that show your meter location, it will list what information we know for both the system owned portion of the line and the customer owned portion.
What do the different types of material classification mean?
There are four types of classification, Lead, Non-Lead, Galvanized Requiring Replacement and Unknown. The information we have about the material of the system owned line and the customer owned line determines what type of classification the service line gets. You will really only see two types on our database. Non-lead and Unknown. If the service line is classified as unknown, we are in the process of gathering information to update that status. While we know the chances of an unknown classified service line are low that it actually contains lead, until we have information to confirm that; we have to assume that it is lead.
Why do you feel the chances are low that a service line contains lead?
Our water system is relatively new (the oldest being 55 years).
Amendments to the Safe Water Drinking Act of 1986 completely prohibited use of lead in pipe, solder or flux in public water systems and residential plumbing by June 19, 1988.
We have never known lead to exist in any of our (system owned) lines.
My service line is classified as Unknown but I know my portion of the line does not contain lead, what can I do?
If you know the material your portion of the service line is composed of, the date in which it was installed or have any records to indicate any of this, please take a moment and fill out our online form to let us know. You can access it, HERE. You may also call and let us know this information at 866-692-5037.
My service line is classified as Unknown, what's next?
Over the coming months, we will have crews coming out to test dig a portion of the service line up and perform a visual inspection to determine what material the line is. This digging will occur near the water meter base, and may have to be done on both the customer side and the water system side.
Once a visual inspection is complete, the database will be updated to reflect the new findings.
If a lead line is found to exist on the water system owned portion of the service line, we will replace it with a new, non-lead line. If a lead line is found to exist on the customer owned portion of the service line, we will inform you of the findings.
Is this going to cost me anything?
Determining the type of service line you have will come at our expense.
If the company owned portion of the service line needs replaced, that cost will also be paid by us.
If the customer owned portion of the service line needs replaced, that would be the responsibility of the customer.
